Eye Conditions

It's beneficial to know some of the symptoms of common eye conditions. This could help you prevent what seems to be a minor infection or problem affecting your health in a more serious way. Having regular eye tests as part of your regular general health checks can help to ensure and problems are picked up and dealt with as early as possible.

Common eye conditions include diabetes, high blood pressure or in extreme cases certain forms of cancer. Here at Vaid Optometrists we have the expertise and equipment to monitor and test your eyes to ensure you maintain healthy eyes for the rest of your life.

Some of the common eye and vision disorders are detailed below. This is just a selection of eye conditions that can affect you. Astigmatism is a common and usually minor eye condition that causes blurred or distorted vision. It occurs when the cornea or lens isn't a perfectly curved shape.


Cataracts occur when changes in the lens of the eye cause it to become less transparent (clear). This results in cloudy or misty vision.


Conjunctivitis is a common condition that causes redness and inflammation of the thin layer of tissue that covers the front of the eye (the conjunctiva).


Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high.


Glaucoma is an eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects your eye to your brain, becomes damaged. It can lead to loss of vision if not detected and treated early on.

Dry eye

Dry eye syndrome, or dry eye disease, is a common condition that occurs when the eyes don't make enough tears, or the tears evaporate too quickly.
